Wax Stamp Seal
December 2021

To add to the detailing of the Utilibe Boots, I wanted to make something that was both pemporary and permanent that referenced my childhood, so I created a seal to decorate the shoe box of the boots.

Inspiration

I wanted to pull from my hometown Philadelphia, and our house. Looking at fonts of tattoo shops near by as well as doors and window details.

Iteration of Design

The design started as this, using the tattoo shop font with the window from my home behind it.

Which was then adjusted and simpified to accomodate for the tooling size and capablities.

For example, it would be easier and safer to clamp the working piece in the machine if the outer shape remained rectangular. The design also had to be large and have enough space between lines in order for the tool bit to cut distinct lines.

Making

Using Solidworks to create the design, cutting on the CNC, turning
the wood for the handle on the lathe and then using natural Indigo
dye from the RISD garden to give it a worn and used feel.
